‘Shell scapes: Reforming waste’ by Tiffany Pattinson
Shell scapes: Reforming waste, is a performance art piece by Redress’ current designer in residence, Tiffany Pattinson, supported by Mondrian Hong Kong, Corner Shop, running from 13 September to 21 October 2024.
Charity Redress, are committed to finding innovative solutions for the valuable clothes collected through their Hong Kong Takeback programme. While the majority of collected clothing is redistributed to our charity partners or resold to promote secondhand, a significant portion (20-30%) is not suitable for reuse due to wear and tear or damage.
Mondrian Hong Kong, as part of a broader partnership for the Redress Design Award, has invited Redress to showcase projects from our designers in residence that are bringing creativity to this waste stream, showing the beauty in every unwanted garment.
Hong Kong, known as the pearl of the orient, has a deep historical, sentimental and environmental and gourmet connection with Oysters. Inspired by the biological behaviours and shapes of oysters, this art piece celebrates these unsung heroes of climate change.
Oysters extract and store carbon from the atmosphere, they clean the water as they eat, protect coastal human communities. They are also master builders that create intricate reef structures as microhabitats, attracting diverse marine life.
