New Redress Video for Schools - An introduction on textile waste for kids in lockdown!

Looking for engaging content for young audiences? At Redress, we know that the past few months have been difficult, especially as there still appears to be no clear ending of lockdown measure in sight. As an NGO we have been looking at our current projects and strategies to see how we can best add value during this crisis. Our Circular Fashion Programme has recently been engaging with pupils in primary and secondary schools across Hong Kong around the issue of textile waste as part of our educational work.

We are pleased to bring a 15 minute version of our usual school talk online to both provide interesting content for schools and parents and enable us to continue to make impact through this project.

The presentation introduces students to the issue of textile waste, encourages them to reflect on their own fashion consumption, clothing use and disposal habits, and provides them with the knowledge and tools to take direct and positive action. Armed with this knowledge, students will have the power to change their behaviour as consumers, minimising carbon emissions, water use and waste in the long-term.

We actively welcome your students to send us any questions they have after listening to the talk to circular@redress.com.hk.

Other Education Resources

Have you seen our other Downloadable School Resources on our website? We have a free-to-download lesson plan including a PowerPoint (largely based on the video above) and worksheet which could be a fun and useful resource to integrate into your online lessons. Visit our Take Action page that details ways individuals can help keep clothes in use for longer, and our Donate Clothes page which includes a bit more information about what happens to all the donated clothes we receive.

Secondary teachers of design and technology may also be interested in our Redress Design Award Educator packs, which include modules on how to design for sustainability.

Finally,  later this year, thanks to a grant from the Environmental Conservation Fund, we will be further developing our resources in time for the new school year, so please check back in August for those.

We will also be delivering a number of school talks as part of this grant so please get in touch to enquire about booking a virtual or in-person talk at circular@redress.com.hk
