The fight for justice

This time is rightfully challenging and changing us all.  All around the world, we are confronted with the fight for justice. #BlackLivesMatters urgently demands us to play our committed part in breaking systemic racism, which is acutely and painfully being brought to the world’s full attention.

We are reminded that “There can be no environmental or social justice without racial justice” in the words of Australian Senator, Mehreen Faruqi.

Redress is fighting for environmental justice by working to reduce fashion’s negative environmental impacts, which pollute water, air and soil, ultimately so that we can better protect people’s health. We know that a disproportionate amount of black people and people of colour are affected by pollution and climate change as recently discussed, alongside racism, in this New Yorker article, which notes that the “job of people who care about the future - which is another way of saying the environmentalists - is to let everyone breathe easier”.

We cannot separate ourselves from nature, nor from each other. With World Environment Day on 5th June and World Oceans Day today, we also ask you to stay with us in our fight to protect the environment and change fashion’s polluting ways. This way, as we strive for a less polluting fashion industry, so too are we fighting environmental, social and racial justice.
