Community Corner: May 2024

South Lantau Spring Closet Clearout

Redress collaborated with local community members and small businesses on Lantau Island last month to produce the island’s first ‘Spring Closet Clearout’ event on beautiful Pui O Beach. With a neighbourly atmosphere, and plenty of lively swapping, selling, and shopping, the event was a success. Residents are already enthusiastically planning for the next one!

If you'd like to host a pop-up or swap in your own community or organisation, check out our Redress fundraising guide!

Trivia game at The Redress Closet

Our curated secondhand clothing shop, The Redress Closet, celebrated Earth Week with a trivia game and prizes.

Hong Kongers came to test their knowledge of the fashion industry and walked away with a deeper knowledge of the environmental issues in fashion, with some lucky customers winning vouchers to spend in the shop. Participants shared how they were surprised to learn of the fashion industry’s alarming waste, and inspired to do their part in creating a more sustainable future.

Compassion in Fashion Forum at Shenzhen Fashion Week

Redress was invited to join Shenzhen Fashion Week activities, speaking at the 10th International Fur Free and Sustainable Fashion Festival 2024 Compassion in Fashion Forum: Technology for Good, sharing insights from our industry report on the role of circular fashion designers. Our Executive Director, Nissa Cornish, discussed the environmental issues of fashion’s ‘take-make-dispose’ linear system, and how we must move to a circular system that takes into account the entire life cycle of a product. Nissa also highlighted how technology can support fashion designers in creating circularity.
