Designers have great influence on the circularity of products, to propel a circular economy where materials never become waste, natural resources are regenerated, and responsibility is taken for the product’s entire lifecycle and its impact on the planet.
Our Redress Design Award 2024 Finalists traveled to a TAL garment factory in Vietnam as part of their educational bootcamp, where they were challenged by TAL and Redress to reconstruct pre-consumer defective stock shirt waste into semi-formal garments using low waste design techniques. See what insights our judges Rod Henderson, President of TAL Apparel, and Dr. Christina Dean, Founder of Redress and The R Collective, have to share!
An estimated 80% of a product’s environmental impact is influenced by decisions made at the design stage.* By collaborating with and learning from world-class manufacturers, designers can help innovate on design solutions to make fashion more sustainable.
Teams were judged based on their design techniques, production feasibility and commerciality, plus storytelling and marketability. Congratulations to the winning team — Silvia Acien Parrilla, Zari Qanei, Tiger Chung, and Nguyen Thi Dung on their success!
