Calling all fashion designers!
Redress is conducting a research piece supported by the VF Foundation investigating the role, influence, and limitations of fashion designers working for manufacturers in China and Southeast Asia.
The survey will only take 15 minutes to complete, and we need your help to get our survey to as many fashion designers as possible in Asia, or working for companies that produce in China and/or Southeast Asia. Thank you in advance for supporting the power of designers to change the industry for the better!
About the study
We often cite the claim that an estimated 80% of a product’s environmental impact is laid down at the design stage (1). Through our research, we aim to provide useful recommendations for Redress, fashion designers, academia, and the wider fashion industry, to better empower fashion designers in promoting and embedding circularity into garments.
Why China and Southeast Asia? China is the largest producer and exporter of textiles for apparel and is a leading supplier for other SEA countries producing and exporting apparel. The majority of fashion brands, both established and SMEs, are working with China and SE Asian suppliers.
In addition to the quantitative survey where we are currently seeking input from 200+ fashion designers, we will also conduct qualitative interviews with fashion professionals across the design stage who work within companies embedding circularity in their production of apparel in China and SE Asia. The outcome will be a detailed report including data analysis, case studies, and recommendations, which we will share and discuss across the industry.
