This past October, we invited everyone to help raise awareness of the alarming fashion waste crisis with one simple action: wearing clothes that are “as good as new”. Thanks to all companies, schools, and members from the public who participated in our first ever ‘Wear Secondhand Day’ consumer campaign!
Companies and schools had fun on their Wear Secondhand Days, showing support for a more sustainable future by picking one day to wear secondhand, sharing about it, and donating to Redress to support our work in empowering people to reduce clothing’s negative environmental impacts.
In partnership with HULA, we hosted a screening of the documentary ‘The True Cost’, which explores the impact of fashion on people and the planet. The audience also benefited from a lively discussion with Redress’ founder, Christina Dean, and HULA’s founder, Sarah Fung.
As Christina shared, “Consumers have the remarkable ability to shape the future of our planet through everyday choices. By embracing the power of secondhand shopping and extending the life of their clothes, they become catalysts for change, driving the transition towards a circular economy. Every piece of clothing given a second chance not only embodies sustainable fashion but also carries the potential to inspire others to follow suit.”
We were also pleased to partner with the MTR to display 400 campaign posters across nine railway lines all over Hong Kong. The posters encouraged the public to choose secondhand clothes that are “as good as new” over new clothes that put pressure on our planet’s finite resources.
Next up: Look out for our next consumer campaign, Get Redressed Month, coming back bigger and better in May 2024!
