Educational Experiences with Redress: Sustainable fashion in action

To support our mission in educating emerging fashion designers to drive the change toward a circular fashion industry, over the past few months, Redress has been hosting educational experiences for Hong Kong students from all backgrounds to discover firsthand how the fashion industry operates, from fabric to finished product.

Circular Retail & Logistics

We held this year’s first educational experience on 12 June 2026, taking students around Taikoo Place to experience circular fashion retail and logistics in action. The day began with a tour to HULA, a premium pre-owned and vintage fashion business. Next, students joined the Redress Sort-a-thon, our large-scale event sorting through the tonnes of clothes collected through our Get Redressed Month citywide clothing drive. We also visited OnTheList, which sells unsold inventory for brands on a flash sale model. Finally, we concluded with team presentations, where participants shared their circular fashion brand or business model to Redress, educators, and classmates.

The Journey from Yarn to Finished Garment

For the next experience held on 23 September, we brought students to Dongguan, China, to visit UPW Yarn Mill, one of the world’s largest woollen yarn producers. At UPW, students witnessed a demonstration of digital knitting and had the opportunity to visit their yarn production site. While in Dongguan, we also visited Aussco, a leading knitwear factory specialising in high-end designer fashion, where students were able to witness a magical mix of human hands and machinery bringing designs to life and preparing them to be shipped to stores.

End-of-Life Systems: Recycling

The final educational experience took place on 14 October at Hanin, a recycling facility in Yuen Long, where students had the opportunity to see and learn about textile recycling firsthand. Afterwards, we brought them to our Redress Design Award 2026 Circular Fashion Design Exhibition at Mira Place, where they were able to get up close and personal with the waste-reducing looks from the runway.
