Redress Alum, Micaela Clubourg embarks on sustainable packaging journey with Delta Global

Redress Alum, Micaela Clubourg was awarded the Redress Design Award Alumni Prize in partnership with Delta Global in 2024, winning the opportunity to visit the Delta Global head office in the UK, and receive packaging support for her brand, Studio Cumbre.

Embarking on a collaborative journey to design new packaging to reduce environmental impact while creating a memorable unboxing experience for their customers, in July, Micaela travelled from Barcelona to London to immerse herself in the development and production process at Delta Global HQ.

“This experience offered invaluable insights into the packaging industry from a business perspective, revealing both challenges and strategies for achieving sustainability,” Micaela shared.

The enriching three-day trip included a comprehensive tour of Delta Global’s factory, where Micaela learned about each department and observed the logistical flow from warehouses to production stations. She also received mentorship from Delta Global’s Founder and Chief Client Officer, Robert Lockyer, to ensure the new packaging would align with her brand’s identity and sustainability mission. Topics included strategies like using mono-material compositions to simplify recycling, reducing carbon footprints, and developing paper-based straps to maintain recyclable integrity.

Next, Micaela collaborated with Delta Global’s design team with a focus on aesthetics and functionality. They opted to retain Studio Cumbre’s signature neutral palette and black typography, complemented by textured, fabric-like cardboard for an artisanal yet minimalist look. To preserve the thrill of unboxing, they included their signature phrase, ‘Collaborative House’, as a nod to their identity and values. They carefully selected materials, tested assembly options, and moved into prototyping, including assembling the bags by hand, which added a personal touch to the process.

“This collaboration has ignited our passion for building a more responsible future in the fashion industry,” Micaela shared.

Redress continues to support its community of over 330 alumni, who prioritise sustainability and circularity alongside desirability, through collaboration opportunities, prizes, and education.
