We are thrilled to announce the further extension of our clothing takeback programme in partnership with lifestyle brand, Tommy Hilfiger. From July, customers will be able to give their unwanted clothes a new life at six Tommy Hilfiger stores across Hong Kong, and be a part of a more sustainable and circular fashion system.
Presently in Hong Kong, around 170 tonnes of unwanted clothes are sent to landfill daily. Condemning clothing to landfill has a detrimental impact on the environment, with some fibres taking over 200 years to decompose. Trashing clothing is, in the most part, unnecessary as around 95% of items that are thrown away could still be repaired, reused or recycled. By actively choosing to give their unwanted clothes to Redress, consumers can be confident discarded items will be carefully sorted and put to good use rather than wasted.
Redress works with a network of partners, including CN Logistics, to ensure that the clothes we receive are redistributed to the most appropriate locations. Each item will be carefully assessed by our volunteer team before deciding whether it is in good enough wearable condition to be resold or reused by our 20+ strong network of local charities, or, if in poor condition, sent to be recycled or downcycled.
This exciting new partnership with Tommy Hilfiger will bring the total number of Redress collection box locations to 38 across Hong Kong and Macau. By expanding the programme we hope to reduce clothing waste, encourage consumers to think consciously about how they dispose of clothing and normalise secondhand fashion in Hong Kong.
