Community Corner - July 2021

Welcome to our new Community Corner - a space we will be using to showcase the wonderful work our community and team do in Hong Kong to support Redress’ mission to cut waste out of fashion!

Have you held an event that you think we’d like to hear about? Send us an email to tell us all about it.

Many hands for maximum impact!

A huge thank you to our volunteers who have helped us to sort 14.9 tonnes of clothing across the last 6 months. These clothes will either be resold in The Redress Closet or have been redistributed to our 20+ Hong Kong charity partners to support their beneficiary communities.

Thanks particularly to the lovely 10 strong team from KPMG (one of our Get Redressed Month sponsors), who joined us in May 2021 tackled around 1 tonne of clothing in a single 3 hour sorting session! We were pleased to share more about our charity partners and answer their questions about what happens to some of the less desirable items we receive, something we are working hard to find more solutions for!

The sessions are great fun and thanks to all your hard work we won’t need to be hosting any community sorting sessions again until September - we’ll keep you posted.

Impact-Driven Student Videos

This week we kicked off our Video Production Workshops, which will sit in our ECF Toolkit. We’re engaging Hong Kong teenagers to help us create mission-driven videos. During the workshops, students are learning how to produce short, compelling, mission-driven videos, working with Redress and Lindsay Robertson from Moonlight Entertainment to act in and produce the videos during the final workshop.

Students are also picking up valuable experience on  all elements in a professional pre-production, production and post-production framework, including: brainstorming, story concept and script/storyboard development, crew delegation, scheduling, interview technique, directing, shooting technique - framing, shooting sequences, simple animation, music selection, shot selection, graphics and subtitling. This week students have filmed in our Kwai Hing warehouse during a community sorting session, in our office and out and about in the Sham Shui Po community.

Thank you to all those budding media professionals for helping us with this content and stay tuned for the reveal!

Influencers come on board to drive awareness for Get Redressed Month!

In June, we invited actor Alex Lam and influencers Ellie Furuya and Minnie Wong to take part in this year’s Get Redressed campaign and so they stopped by the Redress Closet for a photoshoot. Special thanks to our influencers who will be working with us to spread the important content during the campaign to Hong Kong wide audiences, artistic director Kieran Ho, photographer Paul S, makeup artist Sapphire Shen and stylist Emmanuel F for their support! The campaign is launching soon at the end of the month - stay tuned!
