Celebrating the Redress Design Award 2025 with Industry Gatherings in Shanghai and Hong Kong

""

We were honoured to gather brilliant industry leaders at two events this past week in Shanghai and Hong Kong to celebrate the monumental 15th cycle of the Redress Design Award, and to investigate what the fashion industry urgently needs to address. Exploring the intersection of culture, fashion, and sustainability, our thought and action-provoking conversations included:

“Redressing Fashion – the Road to Circularity” with Christina Dean, Founder, Redress; alongside Bonnie Chen, supermodel and Redress Design Award judge in Shanghai; and with Hon. Sunny Tan, Member, Legislative Council (Textiles and Garment) in Hong Kong;

“Redesigning from the Design Board” — in Shanghai, the conversation took place with Tian Ruyin, Redress Alumni designer; Dr. Christine Tsui, Founder, Leng Yun Fashion Community; Yidi Chen, Founder and Creative Director, MATTTER; and was moderated by Casey Hall, China consumer correspondent, Reuters. In Hong Kong, the panel was held with Jasmine Leung, Redress Alumni designer; Morgane Parizot, Strategic Education Director, Redress; Stephanie Chan, Head of Global Brand, Marketing, and Partnerships, Determinant; and Hannah Lane, Development Director, Redress;

“The Role of Culture and Media to Driving Circular Fashion” — in Shanghai, we hosted this discussion with Louis Shengtao Chen, designer and Vogue China Fashion Fund 2024 winner; Jeremiah Neri, cinematographer; Lexi Chen, Senior Feature Editor, Vogue China; with moderation by Stewart Chen, Fashion Director, The Bicester Collection, China. In Hong Kong, the panel was held with Nissa Cornish, Executive Director, Redress; Victoria Tang-Owen, Founder and Creative Director; Thirty30 Creative and Victoria Tang Studio; Flora Zeta Cheong-Leen, Founder, Tian Art Foundation; and Desiree Au, Founding Publisher, Vogue Hong Kong.

Speaking in one of the panels, Dr. Christine Tsui, Founder, Leng Yun Fashion Community, shared: “It is crucial that we urgently educate designers to keep pace with the rapidly evolving fashion market. They must be equipped to make informed decisions that foster sustainability.”

Redress Design Award judge, supermodel, and environmentalist Bonnie Chen emphasised the importance of culture in driving sustainable practices: “The walls of fashion, film, music, and media can be leveraged to inspire consumers to engage with fashion in a more sustainable way, aiming to inspire rather than berate.”

A big shout-out to The Middle House for the lovely venue in Shanghai with a stunning view of the city, and to the Hong Kong Design Centre for the beautiful DX Design Hub space close to Redress in Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong. Thanks also to all our friends and partners who attended and gave support, including the Clothing Industry Training Authority (CITA), Davines Hong Kong, InvestHK, Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association, The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA), the Sustainable Fashion Business Consortium, and Tencel™. And a huge thank you to the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA), our Lead Sponsor who has been supporting us since the very beginning of the Redress Design Award, 15 years ago now.

Together, we're excited to keep working together to create a better future for fashion.
