Objective

This interactive game aims to showcase how design decisions impact the sustainability of denim jeans at every stage, from sourcing to manufacturing and use. You will learn about the different environmental impacts of creating denim jeans, as well as the innovations that are transforming the industry. This activity is part of the ‘MAKE’ circular strategy, with a focus on designing for low impact materials and processes.

What to prepare

Time

  • No preparation needed
  • 15 minutes for the activity itself
  • An extra 15 mins if you are doing this game with peers to discuss your individual results and share reflections

Tools

Activity brief

This interactive game was developed by Redress to uncover how jeans are made and learn more about fashion’s impact on our environment.

Why are we focusing on jeans? Because it is a wardrobe staple, most of us likely own at least one pair of jeans! Through this game, you will understand how different stakeholders of the fashion industry have an influence in the production and consumption of sold goods. You will be inspired to make better choices for your wardrobe and understand how consumers can have a say.

Outcome

Congratulations! You have made all the difficult decisions involved in creating a pair of denim jeans. You have probably faced challenges to compromise between cost savings, lesser environmental impacts, and design features.

We hope this interactive game left you with a better sense of how clothes are made and how designing fashion is a balancing act.
